A policy statement makes it clear to staff, parents and children what you and your organisation will do to keep children safe.
Below we've provided a template policy statement, which you can use and adapt for your own organisation.
What is a safeguarding policy statement?
The document begins with a short statement, explaining that you acknowledge your duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, and that you want all children to have a positive and enjoyable experience, protected from abuse.
Then there is a list of commitments, explaining what you will do, for example, making sure that children, young people and their parents know where to go for help if they have a concern.
This is followed by information on monitoring the policy - how will you make sure it stays up to date, and how often will you refresh it.
And finally, contact details for the safeguarding leads in your club or organisation.
